Our very first time to Leogang felt like we’d just stepped into the storybook town from Hansel and Gretel. Scalloped rooftops, snow up past the windowsills and chimneys pouring with smoke, all gathered in the shadowed valley of some of Austria’s most beautiful and majestic mountain peaks. Come summertime, these are the same hills and valleys that seemed to host Julie Andrews as she serenaded Salzburg in the Sound of Music. Picturesque, calm and also a brilliant stop for any avid adventurer – the municipality of Leogang is a must-detour on any road trip through the Alps.
