Walking down the cobblestone streets from the top of the hill, where your local driver dropped you off, the sights and sounds of Ischia’s Serrara Fontana commune are a core memory. The streets are somewhat reminiscent of the Greek Isles, with brightly coloured doors; and the awnings and patios of family-run restaurants beckoning patrons from late morning until late evening. The rustic beach and bashing waves are all part of the experience - and come summertime, the lineups for small water taxis snake along the boardwalk, filled with tourists waiting to be ferried to nearby beaches and thermal hot spots.
